Designing Inclusive Academic Systems for Neurodiverse and First-Generation Student Success

I partner with colleges and universities to design institutional systems that improve outcomes for neurodiverse and first-generation students. This work aligns course design, academic support, and faculty practice to reduce structural barriers and improve retention, performance, and student success.

Institutional Impact Areas

  • Improves retention for neurodiverse and first-generation students
  • Reduces structural barriers within course design and academic systems
  • Aligns academic support with executive functioning demands
  • Builds scalable, sustainable institutional models

Grounded in the Executive Function Course Design Framework

This work is grounded in the Executive Function Course Design Framework, which embeds executive functioning supports directly into course and program design. By addressing structural barriers within academic systems, this approach improves clarity, reduces cognitive load, and supports student success at scale.

 Institutional Approach: Inclusive Pathways

This work focuses on guiding institutions through the design and implementation of inclusive academic systems that support neurodiverse learners at scale. Here’s how I can help your institution improve institutional outcomes:

  • System Design & Program Development
Design of institution-specific models that align academic structures, executive functioning supports, and student success priorities.

  • Embedded Academic Support Structures
Integration of scaffolded supports within course and program design to strengthen student independence and reduce cognitive overload.

  • Faculty Development & Implementation
Professional learning aligned with course design, equipping faculty to integrate executive functioning supports within instruction.

  • Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
Ongoing assessment and refinement of institutional models to ensure effectiveness, scalability, and long-term impact.

Inclusive Pathways: Higher Education Support and Development

 Why This Matters Now

Higher education is experiencing significant shifts in student demographics, including increases in neurodiverse, first-generation, and non-traditional learners. Many institutional systems still assume strong executive functioning skills, creating structural barriers that impact retention, progression, and equity. Addressing these challenges requires systemic design—not just additional support services.

Why Choose Inclusive Pathways

  • Designed for institutional impact—not just individual support
  • Aligns course design, faculty practice, and student success strategy
  • Builds scalable, sustainable systems across academic environments
  • Addresses structural barriers affecting neurodiverse and first-generation students

Implementation Model

  •  Consultation & Needs Assessment
Assessment of existing systems to identify structural barriers, institutional priorities, and opportunities for alignment.

  • Program Design & Development
Development of a customized, inclusive support model aligned with institutional context, student populations, and academic structures.

  • Embedded Academic Support Structures
Integration of scaffolded supports within courses and programs to strengthen executive functioning, reduce barriers, and promote student independence.

  • Faculty Development & Implementation
Targeted training and implementation support to equip faculty and staff with practical, sustainable strategies for inclusive teaching.

  • Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
Ongoing assessment of program effectiveness, with data-informed refinement to ensure scalability, sustainability, and long-term impact.
